This is my third year working a retail job as a sales associate in square one shopping centre, and the third year I congratulate myself for not physically hurting some customers. Working in a mall has taught me a lot about our society and their horrible spending habits. I am now thankful for the month of January because it is one of the slowest months in the retail world. People have gotten all their credit card statements from Christmas and are usually hiding at home!
Going into work every week I have to mentally prepare myself for what I am about to face. In the retail world there is no such thing as a rude sales associate, and no matter what the customer is always right. Wrong, 99% of the time they are completely wrong and I have to stand there with a huge smile and agree to every absurd statement they have to say. People walk into the mall thinking it is a flea market and that they can bargain on the price of any item they find! People walk into the mall to start arguments so that they can get a price lowered by being belligerent.
Retail isn't all bad, there is some very little good. You do occasionally meet some really nice people, and learn some great people skills that you can use for the rest of your life. I have also learned a lot about how stores usually scam people into buying things.
I can complain about working in the mall all I want, but no matter what people will always be coming in for some retail therapy
Other than loving my job it has also introduced me to many shopping tips and tricks that I'll share with you!
